What is a Bill of Lading?
A bill of lading (BOL) is a crucial document used in freight shipping. It functions as a receipt acknowledging the shipment of goods, a contract outlining the responsibilities between the shipper and the carrier (shipping company), and a detailed record documenting the condition, quantity, and specifications of the shipped goods. A BOL is typically issued by the carrier once they receive the goods for shipment. It’s presented to the consignee (receiver) upon delivery, and they must sign it to acknowledge receipt of the shipment in good condition.
